Jay’s top earner among Taiwan’s celebrities December 24, 2005 Electric New Paper, Singapore
WITHOUT a doubt, Taiwan’s king of pop is Jay Chou.
For the second year running, the 26-year-old R&B prince is the top earner among Taiwanese celebrities, with NT$254 million ($12.7m) in his kitty this year.
NT$120m came from his seven concerts and 10 commercial performances, while product endorsements and advertisements - from toothpaste, fashion wear, handphones, drinks, food and sportswear - made him NT$130m richer.
S.H.E, Emil Chau, Wang Lee Hom and Jolin Tsai took the second to fifth spots respectively.
Newcomer Angela Chang rose fastest on the musical money-makers chart, taking eighth position with NT$51m. Stefanie Sun didn’t even make the Top 10 list.
In the film arena, sexy Golden Horse Best Actress Shu Qi came in first with earnings exceeding NT$12m a year.
As for comperes, the richest is still Jacky Wu with NT$110m in the bank, while the modelling money-ringer is Lin Chi-Ling who, despite a back injury and being out of action for three months, still took home NT$68m.
