Jay Chou
Virtually everyone who is Chinese knows who that name refers to. This is an unrefutable fact. He is the icon for an era. History will repeat itself.
Years ago, when Jacky Cheung wowed the world with his albums, all his other competitors knew better than to pit against him. 5 out of every 10 people would have bought his album.
Now, the same status will be bestowed upon him (Jay).
Before the appearance of Jay, Hip-hop wasn't very popular in Taiwan. All the Chinese music industry could churn up were karaoke-friendly tunes that sounded almost the same.
But when him and Vincent Fang joined forces and broke into the Chinese music world, he started a music revolution and became the epitome of the music revolutionary hero.
His songs's lyrics were extremely diverse in content and his music skillfully incorporated the essence of the East and West.
His influence on the artistes that came after him was obvious, artistes like JJ Lim.
When the era of Jacky Cheung's distinctive singing passed into history, the mumbling style of singing became the fashionable way to sing.
To incorporate his attitude into his image, Jay = cool, and so he can freely write a song called 'Besieged' that was directed at the paparazzi.
Luo Da-you's music critiqued the the entire era of the 80s. Lin Qiang's electic-rock style of music changed the 90s. And this era belongs to Jay Chou.

A gossipy sidenote was included at the bottom of this article:
If the Double Js were to come (for the Singapore Hit Awards)......
According to sources, the organisers had invited both Js for the awards ceremony. After some discussion between the 2 sides, the invitation was simply put aside. Now, if the double Js were to grace the ceremony, it will be....
an entourage with a scale grander than the one that had followed Faye Wong last year. Arriving with him will be at least 6 others. According to sources, his make-up artist cum hair stylist commands a 4-figure (in SG dollars) fee just for a day's work.
a commotion, It will revive the 'Double J romance' that was rumoured to have ended 8 months ago. Media from overseas will track them all the way to Singapore. And, oh, so that's how the paparazzis from the taiwanese Next magazine (Taiwan Yi Zhou Kan) looks like.
a field day for the local media, and thus creating our own local paparazzi culter. And artistes will start wondering: There are paparazzis in Singapore TOO?

i-weekly's review of November's Chopin
November's Chopin - rated : 3.5 stars out of 5
The euphoric feeling of having so much power in one's hand can go to one's head.
Recognise the era he belonged to, make use of the trend, and manipulate it to work for himself. No matter how the others criticise him, pick on him, try to hurt him, it will not change anything in the domain he commanded.
You can have your opinions, I will do things my way. Some say his music style remains the same. As long as the feeling is still there, change or the lack of, is not really the point.
Paying tribute to Chopin, calling himself the 'Poetic Musician', is so arrogant, yet so him. Still taking charge of the image concept in his album, still collaborating with Vincent Fang. Less of songs like 'Dragon Fist' which are full of vivid cultural influences, and songs with mid-tempo hip-hop style.
The enduring 'Fa Ru Xue' (Snow-like Hair), the sadness in 'Hei Se Mao Yi' (Black Wool Sweater), the sentimental 'Feng' (Marple). Left in the wake of the 'Double J' romance are songs that are predominately about love. But the attitude towards it all had changed.
'ΪÄ㵯×àÏô°îµÄÒ¹Çú ¼ÍÄîÎÒËÀÈ¥µÄ°®Çé'
'For you I play Chopin's Nocturne, to commemorate my lost (deceased) love'
'Nocturne' is an exemplar of his characteristic style of integrating two music type that are contradictory in nature. This time is a Classical + Rap fusion.
Pushed to a corner by the paparazzis, he came up with 'Se Mian Chu Ge' (Besieged). And from the song, there was a glimpse of his astute sense of observation.
'³å³öÀ´ºÃ¼¸Ö»¹·
ÎÒÐÄÏëÎÒʲôʱºòÈÏÑøÕâô¶àÖ»¹·
....
ËäÈ»²»ÊÇÎҵĶÔÊÖ
»¹ÊÇ¿ÉÒÔ³ÉΪÎҵĹ·'
'Out comes several dogs
I wondered when I had adopted so many dogs
....
Though (they are) not my match
They can still be my dogs'
And even ended the song with the snap of the shutter.
Artistes that had came after him are showing signs of fatigue. He stands at the zenith, above the other competitors.
Next year will be still his.
Not just an idol, he is the representation of an era, a revolution of attitude. Therefore, he can do anything he felt like doing.
That is the depiction of how the young (generation) liberate their freedom.

Article inspired by Jay's new album, November's Chopin. An introduction to Chopin.
Music Classroom - Jay is Chopin?
Associating himself to Chopin, naming his album 'November's Chopin', and choosing to release his album lead song 'Nocturne' on Chopin's death anniversary, 17 Oct. With Jay's influence, the name 'Chopin' will be promulgated to the masses, even to those unfamiliar with classical music.
Chapter 1: His Background
Chopin (1810 - 1849) was born in Zelazowa Wola (Poland), his father a French and his mother a Pole. Started learning the piano at the age of 4, composed his own music at 7, and gave a public performance at the age of 8. When he was 12, his teachers labelled him 'hopeless' (in his studies), but he managed to find out everything for him. He was known locally as 'Mozart Resurrected'.
Chapter 2: His Introduction to Music
Chopin was very shy, and didn't know how to express himself his first love, a junior in his school. So he expressed his feeling for his first love with the 'Pollonaise in B flat major'.
Chapter 3: The Patriotic Poet
When Poland was ravaged by Russian (then Soviet Union), he put aside his music scores and took up arms to protect his homeland. Due to his love for his country, his works were full of patriotic passion.
Chapter 4: Sister-brother love(relationship where the girl was older than the guy)
He started a relationship with a girl 6 years his senior, and it lasted 9 years. Sadly, after they parted ways, his health deteriorated rapidly. He passed away in 1849, at the age of 39.
------------------------------------------------------------------
The last article was a editorial about how she was attracted to Chopin's music. And in the last part of the article there was a para mention about Jay and the para compared Jay with Chopin.
I only translated the section that talks about Jay, otherwise this post is going to be super long #sweatdrop#
Classical (Music) Seduction
The author felt that:
In the current music industry, we are flooded with sentimental songs. And most artistes are not really singing how they actually feel. She (the author) wonders about music making, whether the song writers write for the sake of writing or are they trying to express how they really feel.
With the launch of Jay's new album, she is not really sure how to associate Jay with Chopin. When she tried to compare Jay with Chopin, she felt that Jay had an advantage, because Jay knows classical music, but Chopin doesn't know hip-hop.
Lastly, she used a play of words with Chopin (Chinese pronouncation: Xiao Bang) and Arrogance (Xiao Zhang)
She had said:
Ïô°îºÍÏùÕÅ£¬»¹ÊÇÓÐËùÇø±ð¡£
Xiao Bang he Xiao Zhang, hai shi you suo qu bie.
I think she meant,
(Is Jay) Chopin or just arrogant, there is a difference.
